Oppositional groups should be small in size, (physically) nonviolent, religious, and above all must be highly controversial and opposing some existing social, religious, or institutional norm. Such groups likely feel marginalized or ostracized by outsiders, which may influence their need or desire to defend their faith and beliefs.
